Planning a holiday often means bringing the whole family along, and for many of us, that includes our pets. But when your accommodation is a holiday apartment, the rules about pets aren’t always straightforward.
So, can you take your pet into your holiday apartment? The answer depends on the building’s by-laws and the terms of your booking.
Holiday letting is usually a body corporate scheme
Holiday apartments may look and feel different to your usual home, but many of them are still part of a body corporate scheme. These schemes are governed by by-laws – rules that apply to everyone staying in the building. The difference is that holiday apartments are designed for short-term stays, and their by-laws tend to reflect that.
It’s not uncommon for them to allow pets without going through the formal approval process usually required in long-term residential complexes. Instead, pet approval may be as simple as disclosing your pet when you book.
How can I bring my pet on holidays?
The most important thing to do before bringing your furry companion is to read the terms and conditions of your stay. These should align with the property’s by-laws and set out whether pets are allowed, and under what conditions. Some buildings may permit pets up to a certain size or limit the number of animals per apartment. Others may require that pets are kept on a leash in common areas, avoid shared facilities, or not be left unattended.
If you’re unsure, don’t leave it to chance. Contact the property manager or booking agent ahead of time to confirm the rules. Taking a few minutes to clarify the pet policy can save you from awkward conversations on arrival, or worse, being turned away.
In summary
In short, yes, you may be able to take your pet into your holiday apartment, but only if it’s permitted under the building’s by-laws and clearly stated in your booking terms. Always check first, and you’ll be on track for a smooth and enjoyable break for everyone – paws and all.
