From 1 October 2026, credit card payments will no longer be available across body corporate payment platforms. This change is being made in response to updated Australian payment surcharge legislation, and affects how owners can pay their levy notices going forward.
Under upcoming changes to Australian payment surcharge legislation, merchant fees associated with credit card payments can no longer be passed on to the individual making the payment. Where credit card payments continue to be accepted, those fees would instead need to be paid from the Body Corporate’s shared funds, meaning every owner would contribute towards the cost, regardless of how they personally choose to pay their levies.
To ensure the majority of owners aren’t subsidising the payment choice of a small number of owners, credit card payments will be removed as a payment option across body corporate payment platforms from 1 October 2026.
